Zhejiang Issues Electricity Conservation Initiative: Encourages Industrial Enterprises to Install Distributed Photovoltaics to Reduce Production Electricity Carbon Emission Levels

Recently, the Zhejiang Provincial Energy Administration and the State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power have issued an electricity conservation initiative, advocating for green and low-carbon production among industrial enterprises. The initiative aims to strengthen energy-saving management concepts within enterprises, implement energy-saving technological transformations, optimize equipment operation methods, and improve energy utilization levels. It calls for the scientific formulation of energy usage plans, reduction of non-essential office energy consumption, and scheduling of production during off-peak electricity periods to achieve cost savings. The initiative also encourages the installation of distributed photovoltaics to reduce carbon emissions from production electricity use.

Details are as follows:

Electricity Conservation Initiative

To all government agencies, enterprises, public institutions, and residents across the province:

Since the beginning of summer, our province has experienced continuous high temperatures, driving a rapid increase in electricity demand. To ensure electricity supply for both residents and enterprises and to actively promote a green and low-carbon lifestyle, we call on the entire society to take united action to conserve electricity.

Government Agencies and Institutions Leading the Way in Electricity Conservation:

  • Actively create energy-saving agencies by enhancing building energy efficiency through energy-saving renovations across all levels of government and public institutions.
  • Maximize the use of natural light for illumination and reduce lighting energy consumption by turning off unnecessary lighting in public areas and ensuring office lighting is turned off when not in use.
  • Improve air conditioning efficiency by setting indoor temperatures no lower than 26 degrees Celsius during summer.
  • Use office equipment only when necessary and reduce standby power consumption.
  • Encourage the use of stairs for buildings up to three floors and implement alternate floor elevator operation.
Green and Low-Carbon Production in Industrial Enterprises:
  • Strengthen energy-saving management concepts within enterprises, carry out energy-saving technological transformations, and optimize equipment operation methods to improve energy utilization levels.
  • Formulate scientific energy usage plans to reduce non-essential office energy consumption and schedule production during off-peak electricity periods to achieve cost savings.
  • Encourage the installation of distributed photovoltaics to reduce carbon emissions from production electricity use.
Rational Electricity Use in Public Places:
  • Shopping malls, hotels, office buildings, and other venues should control air conditioning energy consumption based on indoor environmental conditions, ensuring that public area lighting is turned on only when needed.
  • Advocate for energy-saving urban lighting by shortening the operating hours of advertisement and landscape lighting, and suspend decorative lighting on buildings.
  • Implement energy-saving lighting renovations in scenic spots and squares, and reduce lighting energy consumption through methods such as halving the illumination.
    Electricity Conservation by Residential Users:
  • Make full use of natural light at home and avoid using lights unnecessarily.
  • Use high-efficiency, low-energy appliances whenever possible and set air conditioning temperatures reasonably to reduce usage time and frequency.
  • Completely turn off household appliances when not in use to reduce standby power consumption.
  • Advocate for green travel by charging electric vehicles and scooters during off-peak night hours.

Supporting the “dual carbon” goals starts with us. Let us work together to be advocates, communicators, and practitioners of energy conservation and carbon reduction!
